Benzene Exposure and Leukemia:

Benzene is a dangerous environmental toxin used in the manufacturing of plastics, paints, pesticides, and numerous other chemicals including many household solvents.

Workers that worked in manufacturing, industry, refineries, petrochemical plants, and shipyards are at greater risk. The Department of Health & Human Services has determined that benzene is a known human carcinogen.


The following diseases are associated with benzene exposure:

Acute Myelogenous Leukemia & Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and  (APL).

Acute Granulocytic Leukemia, and Acute Nonlymphocytic Leukemia

Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Aplastic Anemia

Occupational exposure to benzene can occur in many ways including those that work at Shipyards, Manufacturing, and Oil Refineries. Additionally, workers who are involved in the production of plastics, paints, rubber, lubricants, pesticides, and synthetics are typically exposed. Workers around benzene can be exposed to its hazards by ingesting, inhaling, or by skin contact with benzene.
